On the afternoon of December 4, 1949, Mint Hill Baptist Church was officially organized by a collective of Baptist pastors from the Mecklenburg Baptist Association. Historical records of the church reveal that on its founding day, Mint Hill Baptist Church boasted a charter membership of 92 individuals. By the close of that year, the Sunday School program had expanded to 136 enrollees, with nearly 100 regular attendees.
Originally the church met in an army barracks and began to grow from there. The church’s current sanctuary was constructed in 1952, featuring additional space for Sunday School classes in the basement. The Sunday School area was fully renovated in 2023. In 1956, a residential structure was erected to serve as the minister’s home, which it fulfilled until 1987. Subsequently, it has provided accommodation for furloughing international missionaries. The church further expanded its facilities in 1967 with the construction of a fellowship hall and kitchen, and in 1980, it added a two-story educational building adjacent to the sanctuary.
A Message from Pastor Will
God has richly blessed Mint Hill Baptist Church in its 75-year history and has propelled us to fulfill the vision of those who were led to plant a missionary Baptist church all those many years ago. I pray that by His grace and leadership, Mint Hill Baptist Church will reach and serve the Mint Hill Community for the cause of Christ for the next 75 years!
